The 12,000+ acre Anthracite Ridge Wind farm site has been used for industrial purposes for generations. Coal mining, quarrying, fly-ash disposal, acid mine drainage remediation, coal refuse-fired power generation, and farming fertilized by composted municipal waste are just some of the industrial activities taking place around the project. This project farm will boost the tax base of what are now low-use, mined, and timbered mountain tops, restoring more of the land as a clean, high-value taxable real estate asset. Upon completion, the Anthracite Ridge Winds farm will generate approximately 175 MW of renewable energy, enough to power over 20,000 homes.
Anthracite Ridge will make a significant contribution to Pennsylvania’s renewable energy portfolio, enabling local utilities, commerce and industry to procure power generated in Schuylkill County that would otherwise be generated in neighboring counties. This project serves as an incentive for large modern companies, such as data centers and advanced manufacturers, to bring jobs to the county. This project will operate in the PJM Transmission System.
